Coach Wedge Summer Camp Dates are coming soon!
About Coach Wedge Summer Camps:
It will be fun
Over the course of my career as a coach and as a teacher, I have learned one very simple truth: Things are better when they are fun!
In Coach Wedge Summer Camps, you can expect a prepared plan for each day, with activities that will have your child excited about coming back the next day! With a mix of fun activities, drills and games, this camp is intended to be a fun summer camp with a baseball theme!
Fluid and Individualized
At the root of this summer camp is the truth that with each new group there will be a wide range of baseball skill and experience that need to be found and challenged. This camp is as much a home for kids that are interested in baseball but don't have experience, and a home for the little baseball nuts who can't get enough. Both kids will be met and challenged in ways that make sense for them! The circumstances of each camp will dictate the activities; no camp will be exactly the same as the last, there will be no cookie cutter designs. We will utilize both big groups and small groups to help ensure that each camper is engaged and building their skills in an environment that is right for them.
It will not be all baseball all day all week.
This camp will of course contain baseball specific drills and baseball focussed activities, but it will be complimented by games that encourage the motor skill development necessary to play the sport. I am a firm believer in the development of multi-sport athletes, and in this camp, the kids can expect to have other sporting equipment at their disposal, and will engage in gameplay that may feel more like another sport, like football, or soccer, but will translate to developing their baseball skill. The best baseball player is an athletic baseball player.
Coach to player ratio
As a teacher, I understand all too well the difficulties that can arise when there is not a proper ratio between adults and kids. At Coach Wedge camps, you can expect at the minimum a 10:1 ratio. Ideally, a 6:1 ratio works best, and efforts will be made to reach this ratio for the best possible experience for the kids.
Coaches will vary from camp to camp depending on location, and will range from dedicated baseball coaches, to educators, to junior counsellors. Each coach and counsellor will be hand picked based on their ability to interact with the kids first, and their baseball knowledge second. I would rather bring a responsible and charismatic coach who can help the kids stay engaged and happy all week, over a "baseball guru" who can't. As mentioned before, this camp is a fun summer camp, with a baseball theme.
What your child will need:
While I can say that I would like to be able to supply the essentials like a glove, a bat, and a helmet, I cannot guarantee that there will be enough available.
I highly recommend sending your child to camp with:
A glove
A helmet
A bat
Proper attire (running shoes, pants or shorts, a jacket just in case, a hat)
A water bottle
A nutritious lunch and snack
Sunscreen
Maybe: a change of clothes in case we utilize water to help us keep cool on those hot summer days
